Route Planner for Cyprus

Does a route planner for Cyprus exist? I seem to have no luck with the ones I regularly use like Google Maps, Via Michelin and Map 24. I am trying to calculate driving time to the mountain villages so that I can decide where to look for a hotel. Thanks, Fran

I don't know of a route planner. Cyprus maps aren't very good on these international sites.

Also, it will depend on the quality of the road and how much it wiggles.

Unless you want to drive quickly for some reason I'd try to work out the distance and calculate based on an average 30mph/48Kph.

You could try giving us some start and end points and see what driving times people come up with!

Fran,

There's a route planner here:

I couldn't make it work but maybe you'll be luckier.

Hi GDane, this site drove me crazy - not only the maps but also how things are classified and I'm actually quite computer savvy. I spent so long trying to figure out how things work and finally decided I would return when I can't find anything else better :) Tks, Fran

Probably the best route planner you can get for Cyprus is through the members of this site. Let us know where you want to go and we will all help a little bit...

I have actually tried this site and works great! Once I registered I managed to use the travel planner and a series of other interesting features like personal travel guide and hi res multimedia downloads of the island!

Hi there,

It's our first trip to Cyprus, we are going for a week on 30th September 2009.

Would you be able to give me directions from Larnaca Aiport to Paphos. We are staying at the Akteon Village Hotel and will be arriving on a late evening flight, so I am concerned about the drive at this time of night. Are the roads well lit and is there a major road between the 2 towns.

Your help would be really appreciated.

Pamela

Cyprus is not that big and it has motorways that link Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol and Pathos. The B roads are the equivalent of UK A roads and mostly in good repair. I have not seen any C or D roads, E are usually reasonable and compare well to UK B roads. F are very variable and range from good to near gravel track.

Important on road signs Lefkosia is Nicosia and Lemesos in Limassol, there are very few signs left that have the old names.

From Larnaca Airport to the outskirts of Pathos is dual carriageway all the way and well signposted.

Thanks you so much, that'll be a great help. I have also contacted the Cyprus Tourist Board in London and they are going to send me some maps.

Hi Pamela,

I looked up the address of the Akteon Village and see that it is in Chlorakas which was where our apartment was located. Unfortunately, the street name doesn't ring a bell. I see that you have written to the Cyprus Tourist Board. Hopefully they will send you a map.

The problem I faced while researching was - there are no decent detailed maps available. There are maps of Paphos but they stop short of Chlorakas and that is probably what you will get from the CTO. When you get it (they only have that one map), you will see an arrow at the top of the map pointing to Chlorakas. Try to look for that road. There are road signs, once you get into Paphos indicating Chlorakas.

As mentioned earlier, it is a piece of cake getting from Larnaca Airport to Paphos. The highway is fantastic and beautiful. The problem only starts when you get there. As always in a new city, no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to find the street signs. Maddening isn't it? Even during the day, we couldn't find our apartment and drove up and down. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. The best is really to call the hotel for specific directions.
