Six Nations

Hi all, hopefully someone can tell me of a hotel/pub/café in the Sliema area that would be showing Irelands final 6 nation game against France on Saturday March15th. Usually I would take great pleasure in trying out all the establishments in the days prior to the game but I will only be booking into the Sliema Marina roughly an hour before kick off leading to a mad rush to find somewhere to watch the game.

Malta is hardly a hotbed of rugby enthusiasm but hopefully some fine alcohol serving hostelry will be available to view the game.

Cheers

Go up to the Dubliner in St Julians or you could try The Sun in Splendour or the Scotsman or Cooks just hop on the no 12 or 13 bus and you will be there in no time. If you want you could go into Times Square in Sliema opposite the fort on the promenade but don't worry it will be on in any pub that is open.

Closer still, turn left out of hotel front door, turn first left up a steep hill then 3rd right about 100 yard up the hill. There is a sports bar called changes bar run by a great bloke called Joe. He will put the rugby on for sure. We watched the England Ireland game in there.

The street is called tigne street (triq tigne)

If you go on Google earth you will see a roof top football pitch on tigne point. Use that as a guide and the bar is 50 yard away down the street.

Good answers already. A further place would be the Preluna hotel's public bar/TV lounge.

"Malta is hardly a hotbed of rugby enthusiasm"

One must never presume old boy

www.maltarugby.com

over the past 10 years or so rugger has become much more popular, who knows maybe one day we could be part of the 7 Nations with Ireland vs Malta at Ta Qali.

Think of all the pubs you would have to build around the stadium.

Times Square pub/cafe I would think is your best bet from Sliema, lots of screens, bound to be on. Your best bet for the Monday however is St Julians - just set yourselves up around Saddles bar and you can't go wrong. Roads and footpaths overflowing with people resulting in some roads being closed to traffic - this is not usually a planned closure but due to the crowds, no alternative - great atmosphere - go and enjoy.

Mmmm lovely big pints of chilled stout with a nice big creamy head, warm soda bread and galtee butter, champ, colcannon, boiled bacon joints with cabbage, drisheen, Dublin coddle, oysters, white pud, hafnas sausages, all yummy Irish things, wouldn't it be good if one of the afore mentioned Malta bars put these on the menu for St Pats day, you can get good black pudding in Malta but only normally in winter, Maltese black pudding is as good as a good French boudin noir in my book, mr tato cheese and onion crisps the best in the world
