Buses 202 and 203 run there twice an hour from Sliema - journey time is about an hour.

Alternatively take any bus to Valletta and get bus 51, 52 or 53 to Rabat / Mdina

Buses don`t actually go into Mdina , The streets are very narrow --- a bus wouldn`t fit,

It pulls up near the gate to the walled city and you walk in.

Mdina is quite small and you can walk from one side to the other in a matter of minutes

Next to Mdina ( where the bus stops are ) is the town of Rabat. This is a lot larger than Mdina and well worth spending some time wandering about. Many people like to visit the catacombs and the Grotto where St Paul was supposed to have stayed.

A little road train does a tour around Rabat and goes onpast the old British military hospital complex of Mtarfa ------ an interesting 35 minute tour.

Yes , Rabat and Mdina are almost like one place .

Mdina is a walled city ( small ) at the edge of Rabat.

It will all become apparent when you see it.

Mdina is a fortified city and sits on top of a hill. Rabat is the village or suburb that was the overflow to the old capital and it sits at the foot of the hill.

Great time to visit Mdina now, as much of the restoration work on the old walls, city gate and bridge has been completed and the new public space/garden in the ditch is open, its splendid.

When I was there earlier in the year everything was covered in scaffolding and it was a bit disappointing, but not now.

Great for photos.
