Required showers before Blue Lagoon

I understand that it is required that visitors take showers (sans bathing suits!) before entering the Blue Lagoon waters. Is this correct? Are the showers communal or are there separate stalls. I hate to sound like a Puritan, but I am traveling with my mother-in-law and child.

thank you for your help.

Yes, that´s the laws in all public pools in Iceland. Hygiene is important in public baths, right ?

There are private stalls. And of course the sexes are separated.

I was worried but it was no problem at all. I had one of the dressing gowns so undressed in the changing area popped on the dressing gown then showered and then put my swimming costume on. Only had to wait few minutes for a private shower

There are also some private changing rooms available within the main changing rooms if you want to avoid the whole communal changing thing.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am totally pro-pre-swim showers, just don't want to be naked in front of my in laws! Thanks for setting me straight.

Thank you for letting me know about the dressing gowns and private facilities. My anxiety level is down, now all I have to be neurotic about is my germophobia! Maybe I should just stay here on my sofa...

Thanks again!

I just got back from Iceland and visited The Blue Lagoon, which was awesome!! No issues in the showering prior area. There are separate locker rooms with closed showers and open ones,no anxiety there. Enjoy

Ok, I will. I'm not going until August, and I'm really looking forward to it. Traveling with my elderly in laws, my indecisive husband and my young son will be a challenge, but I'm hoping the blue lagoon will be a good place to chillax.

Best,

Swatson
