new years eve

We are trying to work out timing for New Years Eve. We want to see the bonfires, and fireworks but not be out in the cold too long, so are trying to work out what time to book dinner. What time bonfires and where are they?

I think the bonfires start around 7 or 8 pm. The biggest one is by the sea in the western part of Reykjavik. Fireworks are from 6 or 7 but most around midnight. Icelanders always watch a special show in the evening (think it´s around 22 and for about an hour), some kind of a comic review of the year that is passing so not much going on during that time. So, would guess around 8 or 9 pm would be a good time for dinner?! You might find something useful on there northernlightsiceland.com/new-years-in-icela…

I dont understand why there are many packages for bonfires and fireworks on new year eve. Can we do it on our own or we have to join the tour to see the bonfires and fireworks.

Bonfires start around 20:00 - 21:00. Fireworks start around 23:00, peak at midnight.

You can go to the bonfires by yourself (no reason to take a tour), and just stay outside around midnight for the fireworks.

Hallgrímskirkja church and the Pearl are good places.

It is our first time to visit Iceland. Are the Hallgrímskirkja church and the Pearl places in the town center?

If not, can we get there by public transport?

Hallgrímskirkja is in the center, the BIG church.

Perlan is about 10 min. from the church.

No public buses on New Years Eve.

Thanks as well.

We don't really need to join the tour to see bonfire and firework as these places are in town center and walking distance.
