December - Book tours in advance or once we arrive?

We will be doing a short stopover in Reykjavik on 6-8 December (arriving late on 5 Dec).

When we visited ten years ago we just walked into the visitor center in downtown Reykjavik and easily booked activities. Everything we wanted to do was available and nothing was sold out, but it was summertime.

Will it be possible to book tours once we arrive in December, or is recommended to book ahead to guarantee space? We would like to do the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon and Northern Lights if conditions are good.

Can someone tell me how easy or difficult it would be to book activities at the last minute so we can see what the weather is like that day? We usually prefer to go with small groups as opposed to large bus tours.

Just book it when you arrive, like last time.

It's deep in the core of the Icelandic character to do things in the last moment and without thorough preparation. The famous Let's-See-Attitude. It would be a very interesting subject for an essay, actually.

But concerning tours and so on. Yes, you can book the activities when you arrive. For other people who are coming during the high season, such as Xmas or New Year, let them not come to think that they can get the coolest tours in the last moment. They are getting fully booked. But those are not the short type, activity tours. I'm thinking of longer winter tours, package tours in some way or another.

In those cases, the ones who book early are the ones who get them. This is no new philosophy.

Doing things at the last time is often the only thing possible in a country where natural forces can make planning ahead futile.

Just returned from iceland. Very easy to book tours last min. we even booked 2x the evening before due to weather and our energy levels. Hotel reception easily made all reservations and changes for us.

No problem booking on line or just via hotel reception. If doing Golden Circle the half day Afternoon tour is now a bit rushed due to lack of daylight, so full day tour is probably best. Gullfoss and Geysir areas were very iced up 3 days ago and slip on ice spikes would be very handy to take (Kahtoolas work well )

How much roughly were the tours? Also can you hire appropriate clothing out there, I really don't know what to wear. We are going on 1st March for 3 nights. We have just one tour booked, the northern lights e

vening one.
