Dressing For The Harpa-Advice Please

My wife and are attending the symphony there in a couple of weeks. While I know there is no official dress code for the Harpa, the only concert-going fashion advice I find in the forums here is to "dress smartly." Can someone please translate that into "Unfashionable American-speak" for me? Would Khakis and a nice shirt be acceptable for men? How about women-would dress pants and a nice top suffice?

The rest of our trip will be outdoor activities and bus trips, so I'm not packing any formal attire. I'm sure I am going to look like an idiot, middle-aged, American tourist no matter WHAT I wear, but any help to mitigate that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks, but in all honesty, simply saying "casual" is not all that helpful.

I am looking for specific suggestions based on khaki/shirt/top proposed outfits I mentioned as possibilities in my first post.

You can not go wrong in Iceland wearing black (that´s for your wife).

There are always tourists in Harpa and we are happy to see them in any attire as far as they are clean and smell good (that´s for khaki).
