Please suggest a bottle of alcohol to take back home

Hi,

I am heading to Iceland this Thursday (!!) and whilst I'm there, I would like to buy a bottle of something to take back home as a gift for someone.

Is there a popular alcohol that is only found in Iceland?

Also, is there a particular type of beer that someone can recommend trying in Iceland?

Thanks in advance :o)

Brennivín is ,,the Icelandic schnapps", also known as ,,Black Death".

There are many Icelandic beers you should try them all !

Brennivín at the airport, my wife bought the biggest bottle... it is a wonderful reminder of our time in Iceland. and yes we has a couple shots when we were there, not as bad as I was led to believe =)

We also got some vodka I forget the name but good stuff as well, the Brennivín is cheap too.

Brennivín tastes awful !

I would rather buy ReykiVodka http://reyka.com/

or Opal Schnapps olgerdin.is/frettir/…default.aspx

Thanks very much for your responses.

I've heard that Brennivin isn't terribly nice but I would still like to taste it. I will purchase some Reyka Vodka too.

Is it best to purchase them at the airport? Is there a duty free shop of some sort? If so, do I purchase the alcohol before I board the plane on the way home or do I purchase it when I first arrive in Iceland?

Thanks again.

I'd just like to add that I don't want to buy any duty free alcohol for me to drink whilst in Iceland -I only want to purchase it as a gift to take back with me to the UK.

Thanks :o)

After we checked our bags, we went to the duty free shop, bought it and was allowed to walk aboard the place with it.

Might not be a bad idea if you want some wine or drinks to pick some up on your way into the country. We brought our own wine but when we ran out (we were there a full 2 weeks), we went to a wine store in Husavik and was pleasantly surprised with wine prices, not as outrageous as people claim.

The Icelandi Reyka Vodka is much cheaper at the airport, you will have good selection af icelandic alcohol to choose from at the airport duty free. So I would suggest buying it on your way home at the airport.

Thanks very much -I shall buy some on the way home as suggested.

A friend of mine loves beer -is there a popular beer in Iceland that I can also take back home? I've had a look at the duty free website and there are just too many varieties, I have no idea what the difference between them all is! I would appreciate a recommendation.

Thanks :o)
