Iceland Glacier

We are going to Iceland in April and have hired a car. We wnt to konw if anyone knows if it is possible to visit a glacier without paying expensive tour prices. Just drive there on our own and then go for a short walk? Any advice on staying in Reyjavik appreciated.

Thanks.

Go to Sólheimajökull on the south shore. 2 hours from Reykjavik.

Thankyou. So we can just drive there ourselves and do not need to pay for a guide?

Yes... but do not go on the ice without a guide... I forget the names they are some u can walk right up to. All I remember is a long bumpy road but once there you can walk right up to it and a little on it but once again, there are crevasses all over, if you fall in one they can probably recover your body...

...In ten years.

Rob is right.

You can drive up to it, there is a track good for all vehicles, if the area isn´t snowed in.

You should always hire a trained local glacier guide, if you want to walk on the ice.

But to go up to it, you can do by yourself.
