What to wear?

I am travelling to Reykjavik at the end of March and staying for 4 nights. We are planning to do the Golden Circle including snow mobiling and also plan to visit some nice restaurants.

Do I need to buy special thermal clothings or is it ok to wear jeans/leggings with plenty of layers? what about the evenings out? Is it still ok to wear jeans and jumpers?

Thanks

Go to the thrift stores for rain pants and pull-overs! We did that when we dog carted in Alaska and they went rain or shine. Balled everyhing up in our totes and worked perfectly when we pulled them on over our jeans and jacket. No need for brand names.

This sounds very helpful. It seems lots of thin layers with a waterproof outer layer and good walking boots for excursions. What about for evenings out? Are the main streets cleared or are they very snowy? What do people wear in the evenings to bars/restaurants please as dont want to take the wrong things. Thanks so much for any help.

Last night on a tour I wore thermals, jeans, a shirt, jumper, waterproofs. I was still really cold.

Our guide said there is a saying in Iceland, there is no such thing as wrong weather, just the wrong clothes.

I am considering a trip to Iceland in December. First, is that a bad time of year to go to Iceland. I've received mixed responses.... some say not a good time to go because the winds are brutal and it's extremely cold and some say as long as you dress for the weather it's ok. When to go??? What to wear????

We are going to Iceland in August on an escorted tour. What is the Icelandic summer weather like? Will we need thermals etc?

I was there in November the 6th-10th. I had hiking boots/ski socks, a down jacket, wore insulated underwear, thermal ski pants, knitted cap, thermal gloves and a scarf for my face. I stayed nice and toasty. Doing tours you are inside a lot, then get out and walk around, climb, etc. I would check the weather reports for August (historical data) , I would guess maybe rain? I also took a long rain coat with me, but didn't use it as it snowed some. I plan on returning in August. If you have never been it will be a pleasant surprise at least it was for me. But expensive!
