Expensive ???

Can someone advise how expensive it is in Iceland at the moment. Am thinking about coming out for a boy's weekend, is beer and food going to cost the earth? Nightclubs, car hire, that sort of thing?

I saw a picture the other day which said "halfprICELAND"

I thought that was kind of funny.

Look for companies that deal in Icelandic Krona and you will get things cheap. The companies switching to Euro are actually much more expensive.

Just got back from Iceland after a week there and my daughters went out for a night (couldnt afford 2 nights!!) beer was between 800-850 krona a pint, roughly about £5 or just under depending on exchange rate. Cans of beer from liquour store are around £1.80 a can, wines and spirits from the store are very expensive. Take your own allowance duty free from England and drink that before you go out! They said the clubs are free, but it is mainly bars there. People tend to go out late (12.00 midnight and stay until 5 or 6 am).

iceland is well expensive!!!

£6.50 for a vodka and coke!! - later found out that an icelandic single measure is the same as an english double, so its not so bad, just gets you drunk faster and means you are in bed earlier!!

a meal is about £10 on average, i have spent a fortune so far.

souveneers are very expensive for what they are... our tour guide said most icelanders travel to glasgow and ansterdam to go shopping for the weekend because it is cheaper than iceland... not sure how true that is mind!

just save up lots of money and come, you will have a better time if you know you can afford it, rather than skrimping or eating less... you need your energy here!!

Glasgow and Amsterdam have for years been the places to go for pr-Christmas shopping. The savings generally covered the travel and hotel costs.

2008 saw a complete reversal with visitors coming to Iceland to shop because the currency crash made things so cheap. That is, however, quickly changing as new goods are imported at much worse (for us) exchange rates.
