Traveling around North and West in early October

I'm going to Iceland on Sept 30, planning to drive around the countryside from Oct. 5 (morning) to Oct. 9 (be at KEF at 2pm). (4 1/2 days and 4 nights)

We'd like to go to Snaefellsnes, then take ferry to West Fjords - Brjanslaekur, drive around a couple of days taking rt 60 back to the airport on the 9th.

We have been warned of dangerous roads and many accidents, esp amongst foreigners, in West Fjords and at this time of year.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this?

Alt, is to fly to Isafjorour, use it as a base, hopefully take a boat ride from there and, again drive around a bit, and then fly back to intl airport on 10/9 by 2pm. Thanks!! djane

What??, you don´t believe it?, or do you want the graphic stories of people that didn´t believe it, and got into trouble?.

I was there for the weekend, and it´s snowing, guess winter is there.
