Staying in Vartiokylä

Hi all

We're coming to Helsinki in October and are trying to find a cheap apartment/self catering room to stay in.

We've found a little holiday home in Vartiokylä which we quite like and was just wondering if this is a long way out of helsinki.

Does anyone know if the bus connections are ok to the city centre and are there things like a supermarket around here.

We're quite happy not to go out all night drinking, but like an evening stroll, is it a nice area for a wander?

Any information would be great! Have tried to Google it but haven't found much!

Thanks in advanced!

Hi! It depends where exactly you are going. Address?

East side of Helsinki with it's 1970-architecture is not my choice to live but many of my friends have lived in the suburbs there.

And it's safe also. In Helsinki there's no really bad areas. Usually there is old malls with a bars (customers are 50+ year old drunks).

But if you tell the address of the place I can tell you more. About shops etc.

Journey Planner gives you a good view of the connections. Just type Rautatientori to the "to" field: http://aikataulut.ytv.fi/reittiopas/en/

Hi 2Saints,

Vartiokylä is actually quite nice, private houses, no big concrete buildings at all. It is situated around one of the main eastbound roads from Helsinki, so the bus connections are frequent. Also, if you are staying in the western part of Vartiokylä, the metro runs in 18 mins to Helsinki city center.

You might want to check this:

for exact information.

Welcome! :)
