We will be in Helsinki in early Jun on a 8 hour layover on our way to Berlin. Accounting for transit to-from airport to city center and security/check-in, I figure we will have 5 hours net to spend in Helsinki. We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children ages 10 and 14). Below is my plan (based on research done on the web and here on TA, thanks!)
1> Arrive Helsinki Vantaa Airport 8:50a
2> Get Regional 1-day ticket per person (Do kids <14 travel free?)
3> Hop on Bus 615 to Train Station ~ reach at 10 AM
4> Walk to Market Square
5> Take City Ferry to Suomenlinna
6> Spend 1 hour @ Suomenlinna
7> Take City Ferry back to Kuapatorri
8> Walk through Senate Square, Uspenski & Lutheran Cathedrals and walk along Esplanade
10> If time permits, we will take 3T and do a loop around Helsinki
11> At 3PM, Take Bus 615 back to Airport reaching at 3:30 in time for a 5 PM flight to Berlin.
1. Do kids travel free on full price adult regional ticket?
2. Is the order logical? Would you change anything?
3. Is 1 hour enough for a quickie tour of Suomenlinna, anything specific that we should not miss while there?
4. Between Sibelius Monument and Olympic Tower, what should we choose? Are the views from Olympic Tower breath-taking compared to say from top of Uspenski Cathedral?
Any other advice or suggestions please! Is this doable?
