Hotel Kamp & Helsinki

I'm taking my wife to Helsinki, staying in the Kamp in Sept.

Firstly, is the hotel really as good as the reviews and secondly, we are there for 4 days. not knowing anything about the city, where are the best places to go and places to eat, italian if possible.

Thanks

You have chosen the best hotel in Helsinki, located in centre of the city, plenty of shopping, restaurants etc. around. Nothing to worry about.

Some Italian restaurants within walking distance are Azoros and Rodolfo in Kruununhaka http://www.ravintolaazoros.fi/index_en.html, http://www.ravintolarodolfo.fi/

Papa Giovanni on Ateneuminkuja/Keskuskatu http://www.ravintolaopas.net/papagiovanni/

La Famiglia on Keskuskatu

Sasso on Pohjois-Esplanadi www.ravintolaopas.net/sasso/index.asp…

Tony's deli on Bulevardi www.ravintolaopas.net/tonysdeli/index.asp…

Rivoletto on Albertinkatu www.ravintolaopas.net/rivoli/index.asp…

Vespa on Etelä-Esplanadi http://www.ravintolaopas.net/vespa/

Some pages are in Finnish, but you can see the contact info and menu there.

I would recommend you to try also some Finnish restaurants; Aino, Juuri, Kosmos, Nokka, Strindberg, Wellamo, Lappi, Lasipalatsi etc. and Russian restaurants Bellevue, Kasakka, Saslik, Troikka, Romanov.

Very good answer from Tuuli regarding accomodation and restaurants. I totally agree.

Regarding places to go, please check old threads. I have answered several of those for example and you can find them in my profile.

Enjoy your stay !

I just returned from 4 days at the Kamp and it was a great stay. It was especially quiet, peaceful, relaxing and private - my top criteria for a hotel.

As far as eating Italian, I say try Sasso, an Italian restaurant just around the corner from the Kamp. It is casual, chic, and romantic and the service, food and wine are top notch. 10 out of 10 in all areas. Make reservations.
