I am trying to work out a route for a trip in early feb 09 to Finland , with a main interest in Snow/Northern lights/a little off the beaten track/ and tasting local flavor. What do you think of these ideas? I know at the moment it is too much stuffed into a week but as I learn more about the places and find out what is closed/expencive or ot recommended I will cut things out. Also bear in mind we don't mind moving around a lot:
2.Catch coastal ferry early next morning ( for 24hours) to Kirkene.
3.Arrive Kirkene and travel down into Finland, through Ivalo and on to sleep at Kakslauttanen.
4. Next day travel down to Roveniemi, sleep there
5.Continue seeing Roveniemi then get overnight train to Helsinki
6.Arrive in Helsinki, sleep there
7. See Helsinki, sleep there
(Sorry such a long message) Questions:
1.How does the route sound
2.Are there the relevant bus connections in Febuary?
3.Can anyone recommend the overnight train or should we fly?
4.On the Coastal ferry is there an oppotunity to see North cappe?
5.What transport would be best for the bit from Kirkene to Kakslauttanen?
6. How do we arrange to have a go at skiing in Saariselka, and can anyone recommend a site where we can book the skiing/ lesson for beginners
Htank you sorry so long.
Any info will be welcome
