Goteburg & Glass Country.

We arrive in Goteburg on June12--will be there for 3 days and then have 3 days to spend at leisure. Our interests are art, glass and design/architecture. We will have a car.

What is the best city to stay in for visiting the glass country? And what else might you recommend? We don't want to spend 8 hours/day in a car driving however. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Kalmar is the best city to stay in if you want to visit the glass country.

Link to visitors guide in English covering the glass country, Kalmar city and the island of Öland. http://www.kalmar.com/en/

Karlskrona is another city south of Kalmar worth a visit. It is on the UNESCO world heritage list because of its old (17th century) and very well preserved naval base and shipyard which are still in operation. It is a lovely city built on islands surrounded by water. karlskrona.se/en/…

Thank you for your input. After looking at some websites, I am wondering if this would this be doable. Leaving Gothenburg driving to Fjallbacka for a nite (is the scenery great here/quaint villages?) -- then heading to Vaxjo/glass area spending nite in Kalmar and then on to Malmo for the 3rd nite.

Fjällbacka is nice but seems a bit out of the way if you're heading to Småland and glas. If you're interested in art and design and glas I recomend having dinner at Linnea art restaurant in Göteborg. It is co-owned by Torsten Jansson, owner of New Wave who owns the glass companies. Great food and art!

When visiting Småland, stay at Kosta boda art hotel

If you want to see something else, stay over in Jönköping or Gränna on your way from Gothenburg to the glass country. The scenery sourrounding Lake Vättern is lovely.

We'll check out the restaurant and would love to stay at Kosta Boda Hotel but w/ rooms starting at $343 USD that's over our budget for a night's stay.
