Götebog has a quite small city center and you can access the convention center on foot from many of the hotels. Here are three of the smaller ones

Out of these three Hotel Lorensberg is the one closest to the convention center. It is not as small as the other two though it is family owned. Since I live in Göteborg I haven't stayed at any of them, but I have heard good things about them.

City Lagenhetshotell, about a 10 minute walk down the street from the Svenska Massan or you can take a really short tram ride (tram stop is about a block away from the hotel). Some rooms have private ensuite toilet/shower and some are shared shower. Some rooms have private kitchenette but there are also two kitchens for shared use. TV in the rooms and free internet. There is no daily maid service, but the rates are very good and it is close to the conference center. I just stayed here last month during spouse's conference in June and there was a group of other conference attendees there. Lovely small hotel.
