Goteborg at Easter time

Hello ,

i will be in Goteborg on 3 and 4th of April .

Will be anything open these days?

What do you propose me to do and which places to visit?

How do people celebrate this day?

In Greece its a very important day bus as far as i know it is not so much for Catholics .

In Sweden Easter is, for most establishments, business as usual. Restaurants, shops and museums will be open during your visit.

As stated above most things will be open as usual Some may have changed opening hours. Best to check specific for the things you want to see. More places will be closed on Good Friday the 2th of April but most things are open then too. What are your interests?

As to how people celebrate: Religious Christians will celebrate in church on Thursday evening, Friday, midnight mass on the night between Saturday and Sunday and/or on Sunday. Other than that Easter isn't a holiday with a lot of homogen traditions in Sweden. People will celebrate and perhaps eat an Easter lunch together with their families in their homes. The children will get Easter eggs filled with candy. And around Gothenburg we will light Easter fires in the evening of Easter Saturday (which is something the rest of Sweden don't do until April 30). For most people it is just a long weekend with four days in a row away from work!

And... Sweden isn't a Catholic country. The main religion has been Protestant Lutheranism since the 16th century. :-)
