Planning for Early June

I am traveling to Gotenborg this June for a conference. My wife will also be traveling. The reviews for the city are brief and do not offer much variation in opinion. We are looking for some things for her to do during the day and some good evening activites for the two of us in the evenings. We will also have a weekend to spend after the conference is over. Any advice for early spring would be great!

Some trips out into the archipelago could be well worth it. A visit to the Älvsborg Fortress could also be very nice.

If your wife likes museums and art, there are some good ones which could be interesting for her to visit during the day, like the art museum.

If you're able to fit in a bit of sightseeing during the evenings you have free, then I might even dare to suggest a visit to Stockholm during the weekend (if you haven't been there before). It's really beautiful, built on 14 islands, and you can explore places like the Old Town and the impressive Vasa Museum during your short visit. SJ X2000 trains take only about 3 hours from the center of GBG to the center of Stockholm, so it's not too hard to do. :)

Thank you for the advice. Stockholm sounds nice if time permits. Might have to choose between that and islands... Either will be great. We are very much looking forward to the trip.

If your wife enjoys flowers and gardens, she should visit "Botaniska Trädgården" - the botanical gardens:

The archipelago is very nice, and picturesque, as well. Take the tram (no 11) to the coast, and then continue with ferry traffic.

We have a good museum of art as well, located at the main avenue that she could visit as well.

In the evening, why not go to the amusement park Liseberg!? And the Universeum just next to it, if you would like to see more of the swedish wildlife..

Or maybe the casino? Or the opera? Take a look at the link I posted, you'll find some "to-do" links there also.

have a nice stay!

Where will you be staying while in Gothenburg? If your wife likes arts, she can visit the Art Museum located on Götaplatsen, if she's in to design she might like Rhöska Museum located a block away from the Valand tram stop.

There are a few malls, maybe NK would be worth a visit, if she's having a car, the Allum mall in Partille, a 10-15 drive from Gothenburg might be worth a visit, the Nordstan mall have a lot of shops, but is always crowded and a bit seedy with lots of drunks and other questionable characters rooming the outskirts of the mall.

If you get homesick there is a steakhouse with mesquite charcoal grill called Texas Longhorn, with two locations in town. They even have Lone star on bottle, they can handle the meat almost as good as you guys in TX. Funny thing they have some orange and white plaques on the wall, but they are not aware that it is University of Texas memorabilia, pretty hilarious in my opinion, that's the only down side with the restaurant that one have to see the Longhorns badge when one enjoys a good meal ;-)

If you like football, you might be able to catch a game with the local team Gothenburg Marvels, it's not NFL or NCAA but still football, football is summer sport in Sweden. There are usually a few US players in team every now and then.
