Gothenburg in February

Going to Gothenburg in February for 4 days as a recce before going back in May with a group of friends for a 40th birthday. Will it be snowy and dark in February? And can anyone recommend a good traditional Swedish restaurant suitable for about 10 people in Gothenburg (including 2 vegetarians!) Where should we visit on a long weekend in Gothenburg?

Hi- I'm an American who recently moved to Gothenburg. As far as the daylight, it is as limited in February as it is now in early November, with the least daylight at end of December. That is, expect only about 8 hours of usable daylight or so. Because it is a western coastal city though, it is considerably less snowy than much of Sweden. But sunny days are not that popular either that time of year. Of course there is always the unexpected! There are plenty of very good restaurants in town along the 'Avenyn' or main drag where the trams run also. A new Hard Rock Cafe is opening there this month also. Public transportation is cheap, frequent, and reliable also. A fun thing to do for a long weekend might be to hop on one of the many inexpensive ferries (that time of year) in Gothenburg that can take you to Denmark or Norway for a day or overnight. You can either drive a car on or walk on and there are many things to do on board depending on ship. For example, some even have jacuzzis. There are many museums, etc i Gothenurg also, depending on what you are interested in. Good luck.

In Gothenburg in February it can be below zero and cold and a cold wind. Perhaps some snow, but Gothenburg is at the coast and the snow use to melt very quick.

In February the daylight is coming back. The darkest days of the year is in last part of December.

You have a lot of good restaurants and no problems for vegetarians.

Have nice days in Gothenburg

To JimB24...

Saw your posting here. We are Americans also - we are in Denmark for a year and would like to visit Gothenburg over the Christmas holidays. Would you suggest bringing our car over on the ferry (is it nice to drive the countryside?) or is it best to stay in town and rely on public transportation.

Also do you have a suggestion on centrally located hotel - reasonable in price for 2 adults and 2 children? Would appreciate any suggestions you have since it will be our first time there. Thank you! JB
