Gothen burg for a weekend - the best things we should do

We are going to Gothenburg in a few wks for a weekend. We arrive around 1pm on Saturday and leave around 10am Sunday so we really only have 1 full day on Sunday and a half day on Saturday.

What are the things we should definately do, and is it worthwhile to buy the Gothenburg Pass.

Could you also recommend some reasonable priced restaurants for dinner. This is the first time away without our 2 children so we would like to have a nice dinner but nothing too expensive.

Any help to make our weekend really special would be appreciated.

A couple of ideas,

Drinks at Heaven 23, a great way to start off the evening and se the city from above

If you like Italian food there are several great places to eat nearby, La Cucina is the closest and best (a bit exspensive and reservations are needed), Trattoria Pasquale is also good and a bit more laidback.

A trip with the Paddan boats is a good way to see the city as well. It you buy the Gothenburg Pass it's 2 for 1 or free after 3 pm.

For the Gothenburg Pass, it really depends what your plans are, if you want to travel by public tranport (free with the pass) or walk.

A walk through Haga perhaps, and do stop for a "fika" (coffe/tea and something sweet) at one of the cafés.

Haga has a lot of small shops, antiques, vintage, a nice toyshop, second hand books etc.

Please write a trip report and let us know what you enjoyed!

The Gothenburg Pass also gives you use of the river ferries and its lovely to sail down to Klippan and wander around the heritage centre. The Novotel is an old converted porter warehouse and has a lovely terrace where you can sit and watch the boats go by. The huge bridge overhead is spectacular.

You will love Gothenburg. Its such a lovely city to wander around, has great parks and excellent shopping.

I am also booked for a weekend in September. Have lost count of the number of times I have been there but never tire of it and my kids and i can't wait to go back.

Everything in regards to eating are of depending on your tastes and how much you want to spend.

There are quite a number of good restaurants, among them five Guide Michelin onestars.

Keep in mind that some of the restaurants are not walking distance from the Centre, so depending on where Youre staying You will have to take a tram/taxi into account for time and expence.

A few recommendations:

Sjömagasinet, a great seafood restaurant and the favourite place for many of the stars that visit Gothenburg like Bruce Springsteen and Iron Maiden. One of the Guide Michelin restaurants. Located at Klippan, a bit off the City Centre

Almost as good as Sjömagasinet, in the downtown area. Opening up after the summer break 13 August.

The Cattleman Inn

A great appendix to the wildy popular Dubliners Pub almost at the end of the Avenue. Great food and lots of it for Your money.

Texas Longhorn

At the end of Linnégatan a bit of the City Centre. This is a no nonsense meat restaurant that will fill You up good! I´ve always been stuffed...Homepage in swedish but menu in english

These are just some quick snapshots. If You have special preferences of food and prices its abit easier to narrow the valid options down. Ive eaten at about 60-70 different restaurants in Gothenburg and the variety is vast so...
