Lake Siljan

We would like to spend a romantic weekend near lake Siljan in February. Can anybody recommend a nice - preferably small - hotel or Bed & Breakfast with comfortable rooms and a nice view to the lake ? Any suggestions on where to eat and what to do ?

We would be arriving from the Stockholm area.

I came across this hotel while visiting Dalarna this summer. Although we never stayed there but it seemed lovely! The view is spectacular.

We found Rättvik and Mora nice. Orsa on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment. Nothing much to do there.

I would recommend staying in Tällberg if you're after something picturesque, or Mora if you want to be in a town and be able to go to the occasional museum (e.g. Zorngården) and wander to a local restaurant. In Tällberg there are plenty of smaller B&Bs, but the places with the best facilities will be bigger hotels capable of hosting events and conferences, e.g. Hotel Dalecarlia, which has a well-established spa in an adjoining building. Otherwise I've heard positive things about Åkerblads (which has been booked up every time we've been in the area; http://www.akerblads.se/sa/node.asp?node=284) and their sister hotel Tällbergsgården. Klockargården is another popular place which has a special 1000 SEK off a two night weekend in January. You might want to enquire about offers in February, which is pretty much low season in that part of the country outside of the Vasa ski dates (about 10 days from Feb 22 this year). During the Vasa race season, you will be lucky to find *anything* in the area and would be best advised to avoid Siljan entirely.

We just got back from Akerblads in Tallberg. Very lovely, 600 years in the same family. Food was included in our price, so rooms are priced per person not per room.

Green Hotel is on top of the mountain; pretty views and a small art museum. Landsbord (may be spelled wrong) had a great smorgasbord.

All are close to train and have transport to fetch you.

Relax and enjoy this beautiful place.

Thank you for the information.

We just got back from the Lake Siljan area, where we followed the advise we got here and stayed at Jons Andersgarden in Lerdal, just outside Rättvik. We had a wonderful time there. The rooms were very charming, the restaurant great and the service even better. Very helpful people ! We found Rättvik a nice town with lots of things to do. We went for a long walk in the snow, arriving at the top of the ski slopes, but I guess, with the beach (that now was covered in ice) in the summer it must also be a great place to spend your holidays. Tallberg is also a lovely little village, but there is not much to do there. It is just a couple of old typical farm houses and about just as many hotels, most of which seemed very nice and of good standards. From what we saw, we would definitely recommend Klockargarden and Ackerblads. From the Arlanda Airport of Stockholm it took us about 3 hours to drive to the Siljan area, but next time we would consider the train going through Borlange to Rättvik.
