Eating inexpensively in Djurgardsvagen, Stockholm.

Hi,

My daughter and I are planning to travel to Stockholm for the first time on Monday 7 April returning Wednesday 9 April. We will be staying at the Melody Hotel in Djurgardsvagen as we have tickets to the Abba Museum the following afternoon, and possibly we will visit another museum in the morning. I have never been to Sweden before and slightly nervous about food. We have heard it is expensive so we would like to know where we should eat nearby for lunch and then dinner which isn't going to cost us a fortune. The hotel is bed and breakfast and has a restaurant there but it all looks very exotic and expensive too. We are going to take the equivalent of £200 in Swedish kroners for food and will bring our debit cards with us just in case....Can anyone advise us please?

Generally in Stockholm, a simple lunch typically costs 70-90 SEK, while an à la carte dinner is 150-300 SEK.

The restaurants in Djurgården are rather expensive even for Stockholm. See the Wikivoyage guide here:

Consider take the boat to Slussen for some shopping and dining in Södermalm or Gamla Stan.

Thank you for you reply. I will study your link. Not sure if we will have time to go shopping but will see what happens when we get there. Where do you get the boat to the places you mentioned?

I would recommend Oaxen Slip. Not terribly expensive but definitely interesting food and it is walking distance from your hotel.

Also within walking distance are Villa Godthem and Ulla Winbladh. Both are generally a bit pricey but Ulla Winbladh usually has dishes under 20 GBP on the "menu of the day". Villa Godthem has classic meatballs on the menu for under 15 GBP.

Café Blå Porten is a good lunch place close to your hotel: http://www.blaporten.com/

A good thai within walking distance : http://www.sabai.se/sabai-soong

Rosendahls trädgård is also nice if you are taking a walk on Djurgården www.rosendalstradgard.se/section.php…

Hi busylizzie,

I've sent you a PM with some lunch/dinner options.

The jetty is actually very close to your hotel, just walk towards the water, you can also check out Google Maps and you'll see a ferry about to dock just two blocks from the Melody.

There's a manned terminal where you can buy tickets, some 45 SEK each.
