Nynäshamn to Stockholm on your own

During our cruise, we would prefer to do Stockholm on our own and would need to know the following: How to get from Nynäshamn to Stockholm (seems to be train, which is perfect, but what exact station we have to choose, if we want to travel from the harbour (cruise) to Gamla Stan in Riddarholmen in the center of Stockholm. Afterwards we would like to cross over to the Vasa Museum by a ferry, that seems to leave Riddarholmen Island (Gamla Stan) in Slussen and goes to Djurgarden - Island. Does anyone know how this works and if works well. Can anyone tell me how much time all that would take us, the journey by train to Stockholm, a walk in Gamla Stan and a visit to the Vasa Museum and return back to the ship? Thanks in advance! First, you mix some names up a little...

Gamla stan (Old town) is an area consisting of one bigger island, Stadsholmen, and one smaller island, Riddarholmen. The two islands are close together in the very heart of Stockholm. The name of the bigger island Stadsholmen is not that commonly known and is often named just Gamla stan. The ferry to Djurgården leaves from this island near Slussen, not from Riddarholmen.

When speaking about Riddarholmen, it is worth a visit too. Most tourists does not visit this small island so full of Swedish history. Riddarholmen is Swedish for "the knights island".

It is possible to do as you suggest. The ride Nynäshamn - Stockholm is about one hour one way.

You take the commuter train from "Nynäshamn färjeterminal" to "Stockholm Central" train station, located on the same spot as the central underground station "T-centralen". The commuter train does not stop in Gamla stan, only underground do.

Take the underground back from T-centralen to Gamla stan, it is just the next stop.

Take the city ferry from Gamla stan to Djurgården. Walk 300 m to the Vasa Museumalong the sea shore, then you can go back the same way afterwards.

Take the ferry from the Vasa Museum to Nybroplan and then walk through central Stockholm 1 km to Central train station, where you go back by the commuter train to Nynäshamn.

Commuter train (and other city transport like underground etc):
