Fredensborg and Fredriksborg Castle

If we are staying at the Phoenix Hotel on Bregade 37, is it easy to visit the the Fredensborg and Fredriksborg Castle by public transportation? How can we get there from the hotel and how much approximately would it cost? Thanks in advance.

It's fairly easy:

First you walk to the metro stop on Kongens Nytorv and ride one stop til Nørreport station.

At Nørreport you change to the surburban railway - S-tog - to Hillerød it's line E or A.

At the station in Hillerød your change to a small local train - you need the line that terminates in Helsingør. Ride two stations to Fredensborg and then walk through lovely town.

It will take about an hour.

If you buy a single ticket - it will be about 70 kr. Each way.

If you buy a 10-trip card you can reduce the price by half, but since you may not need 10 of the most expensive trips you should think about getting a 3 or 4 zone card depending on how many people are travelling together and whether or not you'll use public transport to and from the airport.

Thanks, Andreadoria56.

Are the Fredensborg and Fredriksborg Castle close together?

Would the metro, suburban train and local train trips all count as 1 trip for purposes of the 10-trip ticket that you mentioned? (There are 3 of us travelling.)

Fredensborg and Frederiksborg are in different towns. Frederiksborg is in Hillerød and Fredensborg is about 15-20 minutes away, I think.

You would go to Hillerød to visit Frederiskborg, then take the train to Fredensborg. According to the Danish Train website, it's a 9 minute train ride between the two stations:

Be aware that Fredensborg Paalce is only open to the public for a very short period during the summer. Otherwise, it's only the gardens which are open.

As to the train tickets - depending on what zone 10-clip ticket you buy, the ticket will be good for a certain period (1 hour, 1 1/2 hour etc.) after it is clipped. If you spent more than an hour in Hillerød, you'd have to clip it again, same on the trip back. If you transfer directly at Hillerød, you wouldn't have to clip the card again. I've found that generally you just have to get on the train within the time limit - it doesn't have to include the whole trip.

You would have to decide which klip-card to get, depending on cost and whether you want to share one or not.

Between Copenhagen and both Fredensborg & Hillerød, it is:

2 zone card - 3 clips

4, 5 or 6 zone cards - 2 clips

all zone card - 1 clip

It would be one card no matter what between Fredensborg and Hillerød. So three people could share an all zone card. However, if you are doing other travelling (i.e. to/from airport), might be worth getting a 4 zone card for each person.

2-3 zone cards are good for 1 hour after a clip, 4-6 zone cards for 1.5 hours and all zone cards for 2 hours.

2 120 kr.

3 160 kr.

4 210 kr.

5 255 kr.

6 300 kr.

Alle 370 kr.

Have fun!

We visited Fredriksborg Castle last week--it's definitely worth a visit!

The train ticket is 66 kr one way from Nørreport to Hillerød (You take Line A or E, which comes very frequently).

We bought a 24-hour ticket for 110kr/person and you can use it on the train, metro and bus and also with that ticket the Castlet and many other museums are free! (We didn't know or forgot about it and we paid 60 kr/person to get into the castle :-(

The 15-20 min. walk from Hillerød station to the castle is nice,

esp. around the lake, but you could also take the bus.
