Which resort

And advice which resort may suit us best. We have been to many greek islands but not Skiathos. We are in mid 40`s travelling without kids. We like traditional resort if possible but like to have a good selection of tavernas with few bars and shops. We usually hire a car to explore the surrounding area. Basically somewhere not too busy but not dead either.

Hi Caz, we went last year and are returning to the same hotel, it is isolated and has a very good hotel bus to take you to town or the busstops, it's called Paradise Hotel and we think it is.

Remember the island is small you'd see it all in a car in 3 days I would think.

We visited Troulos which has a nice beach and is small and trad. Koukanaries has the best beach but we didn't see the village so can't comment.

Skiathos Town is lovely and not too busy and there's lots of accomodation there and at the town beach which is called Megali Ammos.

The bus service is very good and there's water taxi's so wherever you stay you won't be far from what you want.

Enjoy, Gary

Achladies is a pretty, laid back resort just a few minutes outside Skiathos town.

It has a lovely beach with a few taverna's yards from the sea.

It also offers the most romantic ferry journey to and from Skiathos town.

Try it you'll love it!

We too would reccommend Achladies, have been holidaying in Skiathos since 1996. Both in our late 40's, no children either, we enjoy peace and quiet in the day time, with a few bars and tavernas, but like the evenings in Town with a little more choice of places to eat and drink. Which ever way you wish to travel into Town, Taxi, Bus or Water Taxi(the best one I must add), you are only 10 minutes away. The Town is lovely at night, with a relaxed atmosphere, and two harbours to stoll around after a superb meal. The further down the coast you are from Achladies, the longer the trip into Town of an evening. Cannot speak for any of the other resorts, have visited many of them in the daytime, but never at night. I would say though, that even if you did not wish to go to Town from Achladies, you could spend an enjoyable evening around the local tavernas, which we have done on many of an occasion.

Sure you will enjoy!!

I too would recommend Achladies and in particular, Villa Apollon - look up the reviews for this on the Trip Advisor Site - and there are many photographs as well.
