To Hydra from Nafplio in May?

What's a good way to get across to Hydra for a day from Nafplio?. Is it better to stay in Ermio or a place on the opposite coast to get across for a day visit, maybe stay on Hydra overnight and cross back in the morning if Hydra is more enjoyable in the evening?

We'll be in Nafplio end April and headed by car to Monemvasia and onwards around Peloponnese for 2 weeks...

There is no ferry service between Hydra and Nafplio, so you will probably have to go driving to Metochi or Ermioni and then take the small boat or ferry to Hydra.

Looking at a map it seems Porto Heli could have a ferry too?

In the season, Pegasus Cruises does day trips to Hydra and Monemvasia from Nafplio/Tolo. They have a website, but it might be too early for the latest information and bookings.

You could consider driving to Galatas from Nafplio, also two buses a day. Take the five minute boat trip to Poros and then the ferry to Hydra.

www.gtp/gr will give you the ferry schedules.

Yes, there is a ferry from Porto Heli as well, but it takes more time than going from Metochi or Ermioni. But you can consider that as well.

This is correct, although the times are not exactly the same every day. Have a look at the following link, on the third table on the right where it says Hermioni-Piraeus. All the ferries leave from Hermioni at the times it says and stop at Hydra before Piraeus. The trip is 20-30 minutes, depending on the ferry (Flyingdolphin or Flyingcat 5).

I've been doing a bit of research on travelling from Nafplio to Hydra. I didn't have much success, apart from receiving the following information from Pegasus Crusies, whom I emailed for advice. It seems that in the summer, Pegasus Cruises arranges boat trips from Tolo (near Nafplio) to the islands of Hydra and Spetses. visitnafplio.com [Seem to be slow cruises rather than ferries, with entertainment on board??]

Here's their email to me:

Good morning from Tolo -

Yes, we will be operating the one-day excursions to Hydra and Spetses from Tolo during May 2014. However, we do not yet know the specific programme of days. When the cruise operates, it departs from Tolo at 08.45, travels first to Hydra for a visit of about 3 hours, then to Spetses for a visit of about 2 hours, and returns to Tolo about 19.00 The price of the trip is €34 per person.

Please check with us again a bit closer to the time, for further information on the exact schedule.

Thank you for your interest, G. Triantafillou.
