Meganissi - Villa Kalithea Vathi

We're looking at booking a holiday in Meganissi, James Villas have a Villa Kalithea in Vathi, anyone used it before?? From the photos it looks like there is another villa behind which may overlook it. Also looking for some information on boat hire, is it worth it, what is there to see, cost etc and does anyone hire bikes?

Cheers,

I would guess they are on the side of a hill overlooking vathy, one villa probably does overlook the other but I don't think it is intrusive. I believe that you can hire boats on Meganisi nowadays I think there is a hire place there. It is certainly well worth hiring a boat you can go over to Nidri and visit many of the surrounding areas and beaches in it. To hire a boat very much depends on the time of the season but would probably be about 50-60 euros per day. you can hire Bicycles,a good idea to enable you to get to and from local beaches, not sure whether you can get them on Meganisi or not but certainly hire them in Nidri and take them on the ferry. About 4-5 ferries daily depending on the time of year and only 2 euros each way, 25 minute trip. Not worth hiring any cars or motor cycles on Meganisi, only a few kilometres of roads, but again, it is worth hiring them in Nidri and exploring Lefkas, ferry times permitting.

Thanks for the info Vic, car comes as part of the deal, got to drive from Preveza to Nidri and then ferry to Meganissi. We love the quieter, uncommercialised Greek islands, altho I think this will be the quietest so far, as long as there's somewhere nearby for a cooling beer, we'll be fine.

Hi

Stayed at the Villa a few weeks ago. It is 75 steps up from the road and there is another villa behind it but you are not overlooked. The villa is well furnished, very pleasant and offers an incredible view. I would mention it is not suitable for those who cannot make the steps and the pool is wonderful for adults but children will need full time supervision. There is no grass play area either.

For boat hire pop down to the travel agent in Vathy (look for the Avis sign) and Rebecca can sort out what you need.

Not aware of anyone hiring bikes on the island this year.

From the villa you are within 5 minutes walk of numerous great tavernas........they are all good and the nearest is Fresh.......great for drinks and is also a patisserie.............watch the calories!!

Overall a paradise place for just chilling out, if you are expecting more than a few drinks for nightlife then you will be disappointed and you can sight see the whole island in a day by car..........a boat will take a lot longer and the bays / coves are amazing..............Sail out of the harbour and two bays around to east you will find a small jetty and Pirates Bay Restaurant...........do not let the name put you off.

I hope you go and have a super time

Also, forgot to mention there are no banks or ATMs on the island and credit cards are not used

We stayed at Villa Kalithea in Vathi in September this year.It was a really lovely Villa with beautiful views overlooking the Harbour. It was nicely furnished and the pool was a bonus.

The one big drawback was the difficulty getting our suitcases up the 77 steep steps up to the Villa. We were advised by the local cafe owner that there was an alternative road which gave access from above the Villa. This entailed a descent of 44 steps. We were pleased with quality of the Taverns in and around the Harbour and enjoyed the Greek Night in another village. The Island is very small and a Ferry transports you from Lefkada and isn't very frequent.
