Hi CityfanDublin,

Take a look at the resort of Sans Stefanos Northwest, a lovely village with a beautiful sandy beach, many brilliant taverna's and some lovely walks in the olive groves or over the headland to the nearby resort of arrilas.

The Athina hotel [Thomsons] is practically on the beach and it is half board but if you are thinking of eating out alot and considering an independent holiday then maybe the self catering Christina apartments or the Fedra Mare apartments which both have wonderful views over the bay may interest you, both have their own websites and contact details. There are many other accomodations in Sans Stefanos which although not directly on the beach most of them are only a few minutes stroll. You could also try looking at ' Corfu selections' which feature some lovely apartments for the independent traveller.

If you google 'Virtual tour of Sans Stefanos' [bliss) then you can take a tour around the village, beach etc and see just how lovely the resort is. There is a forum called ' Sans Stefanos forum' with lots of useful info where the members will answer any questions that you may have.

Hope this helps and if you need any more info then please let me know.

Houmis apartments www.houmis.com/index.php?lang=en&menu=home in Agios Georgios North http://www.agiosgeorgiospagi-bliss.com/ and http://www.agiosgeorgios.co.uk/index.html would fit the bill.

Hi CityfanDublin....and welcome to the Corfu forum..

It depends on how close you want to be to Corfu Town..Corfu is not really a big island. For example it only takes about an hour to get to the north of the island. San Stephanos and Agios Georgios are really lovely places to stay and have the sandy beaches you would be looking for.

Gouvia is only about 5 miles from Corfu Town, very pretty place with a harbour, good selection of tavernas etc, but it has a mix of sandy and shingle beaches as well.

Are you thinking of car hire to travel around the island on day trips or taking coach excursions? Or are you looking just to have a leisurely time on the beach or around the poolside?

Corfu is a beautiful island and the greenest of the Greek Islands, whatever you choose I am sure you will enjoy your stay....

Sea Breeze - Agios Gordios. 25 mins from airport, accommodation right on the beach, good quality. You may have difficulty getting in though, as they get a lot of repeat visitors. I am pretty sure they take bookings from Independent travellers, they did when we stayed there about 3 years ago.
