Where next!

We visited Kefalonia in Summer 2011. We loved it there. I am a teacher but we found it wasn't too busy in August. We stayed in Lourdas. We would go back to Kefalonia but we'd like to visit another island.

I posted this in the general Greece forum and has one helpful reply. Any others ideas? We are looking for more adult resort, nice beaches and don't mind hiring a car to visit places. Good tavernas also a must!

Flights from Gatwick next year to Samos no ferries involved. We went for the first time this year and stayed in Votsalakia if we returned we would probably stay in Kokkari.

Yes as said above direct flights from Gatwick to Samos, it was actually a quicker flight than Kefalonia.Quite dramatic landing though. We were there for two weeks and hired a car for the last week. Stayed at Pyrthagorion, where for one week there is enough choice of shops, beaches, tavernas, historic sites all within walking distance. But when we had a car and travelled all over the Island I think we liked Kokkari best and if we were to go again this is where we would base ourselves

Would also recommend Samos (agree with the comments about the landing). Beautiful island we stayed in Votsalakia.

Skiathos is also beautiful but more touristy (another "exciting" landing). We also loved Kefalonia and would definitely return to Ithaca - you would have to get a ferry to Ithaca from Kef.

Have you thought of looking at the Peloponnese ? You can still get that "Island feel". (We stayed in Koroni but visited many other places)

Happy planning!

Hi Dubuss,

As regards Parga - the 3 main beaches (Valtos, Town Beach and Piso Krioneri Beach) will all be very busy in August. Sarakiniko and Lichnos Beach can be reached by water taxi and, although busy, will be less so than the Parga town beaches.

However, if you have a car then there are dozens of beaches off the beaten track but easily accessible by car. I've attached a link which shows some of them, but there are dozens more. As you're driving along the main road there will be many simple signs saying 'Beach' with an arrow pointing down a narrow winding road (or track) and these will be altogether much quieter than the more well known beaches - and used by the locals.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

We are looking at Parga and Samos and a friend suggested Lesvos, so these are the 3 main contenders. I think we are probably going to go for Parga or Samos, so now to investigate both places!

We will definately be hiring a car so we will be able to explore these places you've suggested

Limni in Euboea (Evvia) would be worth a look if you want somewhere off the usual tourist track, though it's popular with Greeks. Or try Levkes in Paros - it's inland but there are buses to different parts of the island including some good beaches.
