where to stay in Kos Town

This will be our first time in Kos. Looking for quite a peaceful accommodation but within 20 minutes walk of town. Really have our hearts set on Kos but just so much to choose from and would hate to go somewhere I would regret. Any opinions appreciated.

Hello, we stayed in Kos two September's ago, although we did not stay in Kos town itself, we stayed in a fishing village called Kefalos, there were restaurants, cafes and bars (not hundreds but enough) and it's not at all a rowdy place and most people that were there were couples and we hardly saw any children, I think it took about 40 minutes to reach Kos town by bus. We did venture into Kos town one day but we found it to be too commercialised for us, that is, we've been to Rhodes town and we felt it was totally different (very traditional) to Kos town and were quite glad we were staying in Kefalos. But don't get me wrong, Kos is a beautiful island as like the other Greek islands I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time there.

We have been travelled to Kos on 7 occasions since 1996. We always stay in Kos Town and find that the Marina-end of the town to be quieter and much nicer than the other districts such as Lambi with its high concentration of commercial (bars, resturants, mini-markets, souvenir shops etc)activity. I would highly recommend the Koala Hotel (www.hotelkoala.gr). We have stayed at the Koala on six occasions and always found the hotel to be quiet and clean. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The surrounding area is mostly residential and therefore not noisy either during the day or by night. The tavernas near the hotel all close around 11:30 p.m, 12 midnight at the latest. The only street noise at night is the sound of the odd motorbike. If you are looking for something quiet I would definitely avoid Kardamena which is very rawdy and extremely noisy. Although I have never only visited the village of Maastachari during the daytime its seems to be very quiet and easy going. I hope the above helps. I wish you a happy holiday where ever you decided to stay.

Can highly recommend the Pelagos Apart-hotel on Lambi Beach, about 15 minute walk from Kos Town, or less than 5 mins on bus, which is regular (stop just outside apartments). $ star apartments with all the advantages of hotel i.e. 24 hr reception, bar, pool bar, restaurant. Very friendly and first class accommodation. Lovely pool with 'swim-up' bar - no fighting for sunbeds - even if you don't come out until late morning! If you want to know more let me know and would be glad to give you mroe info.

Hi Pixie

I hope you have a great holiday in Kos. There's a huge selection of very good quality smaller sized, family run, hotels around the island. Kos Town and the surrounding areas are a very popular base. However, if you want something really quiet and peaceful you might do better to head out of town to Masthari, Tingaki or Kefalos.

I've been to Kos 9 times in the last 4 years. I have friends who run a hotel there about 20 mins walk from Kos Town on the outskirts of Lambi (the quiet end). The hotel is Alice Springs. It has a website if you are interested search on Google.

I'd advise you to check travellers' reviews for ANY hotel before you go. There are various websites including Trip Advisor so do your homework and you'll get the low down from the holiday makers point of view which is the best recommendation.

Have a great holiday!
