Piraeus - Sifnos cost

Working out my budget for 2013. Can anyone tell me what the ferry fare from Piraeus to Sifnos was in 2012 - I realise this year's prices aren't published yet.

Hi

Schedules and Prices are out for the speedrunner for 2013 although you can't book until next month. See the link below

http://www.aegeanspeedlines.gr/index_en.html

These details are for the fast ferry. There is a slow ferry connection with Zante Ferries (The Adamantios Korais) which is slower(obviously!) and cheaper

If you're on a budget, (even if you're not), the conventional, slower ferries are cheaper and a lot more pleasant experience.

when we went in 2012 it was €30 on deck and €36 first class, on Agios Georgios.

The other slow ferry option is Adamantios Korais. You'll probably find the fares are the same as they are run by the same consortium.

Hi,

You can't find the cheaper ones now, as usual, timetables are yet to appear.

Adamantios Korais, Ag. Georgios, are the cheaper slower ones.

Current timetables run about 2 months ahead so you'll have to wait until maybe April/May for those. Departure times maybe around 07:30 or 12:00-18:00 depending on day of the week. Current cost is 30€.

Of the fast ones the Aegean Speed Lines are much better, they are larger monohulls.

I absolutely agree, Tomtom12! I love the Georgios, but I don't know if it will be running this year: I think there were some problems at the end of last year. The Korais is very similar, though, and the price is about the same. When I went to Sifnos last year at the beginning of September I had to take a highspeed ferry, (Speedrunner 4) as it was the only one available. It did take only just over three hours, but I found it very chilly - I'd taken a seat in the First Class area, as I thought it would be more comfortable - I've made that mistake before! The First Class seating on the 'slow' boats is MUCH more comfortable - and cheaper!

I think that explains things. We always take the overnight flight from the UK, arriving at Piraeus at some ungodly hour in the morning and then take the first ferry out to Sifnos. One year we remember being on a really comfortable ship where we paid a little more for first class and could really have managed to get on board the speedrunner with the uncomfortable airline seats. We could never work out how to get back on the comfortable boat!

So, now, my question is do I need to make sure I book a Adamantios Korais, vessel? And does anyone have a rough idea what the cost if (even if you splash out on First Class).

We took the Adam. Korais from Folegandros to Thira in 2011, and the economy lounge was very confortable, with plenty of space. Mind you it was early September, so not the busiest time.

That said, we have visited over 50 Greek islands over the years, including school holidays, and have never booked in advance on the slow ferries.

With the fast ferries it's better to book, especially at busy times.

We had to book Speedrunner 4 from Sifnos last year, not a pleasant experience!
