Sifnos-Next week

Hello

Am going to Sifnos next week - has anyone been there in October? Wondering will supermarkets, shops and restaurants be open in October, any tips or places to see? AM very excited but wondering what to expect?

Thanks in advance for help x

Here are two food-related tips:

The Greek cuisine on Sifnos is delicious, but so is the Italian food served at L'osteria da Claudio on the main road leading to the port in Kamares. We went there for dinner one night during our visit to Sifnos at the end of September on the recommendation of other guests staying at the same hotel (some of whom went to L'osteria as many as three times in one week because they enjoyed the food so much). They said the pizza was great, while people who were leaving the restaurant when we arrived told us the lasagna (the special for that particular night) was superb. We decided to order the lasagna and one of the pizzas (it had feta, olives, onions, green peppers and tomatoes), and loved both. The pizza was one of the best we've eaten anywhere, while the lasagna was wonderful, too. The restaurant is small, having perhaps just a dozen tables inside, and several more outside. On the night we dined there, half the tables were occupied by people from our hotel, and over breakfast the next morning everyone talked about how much they had enjoyed their dinners. (Just a word of warning: if you do go there for pizza, go easy on the hot pepper oil they bring to the table for diners to sprinkle on their pizza -- even just a few drops of it will be mouth-searing hot!)

The bakery next to the archaeological museum in Apollonia sells some of the yummiest cookies we've ever tasted. They are priced according to weight, and the ones we bought cost from 1.50 to 2 Euros apiece. Check them out if you find yourself feeling peckish for a quick snack!

Just back from a two week stay in Sifnos (Artemonas).

Mini-Markets, shops and a dozen or two tavernas will be open.

But the best thing to do is to expect nothing.
