Any thoughts about may/june sunset viewing locations

I've read that the sunsets differently (position wise) depending on the time of year and that Oia is 'the' place to stay and/or watch the sunset during the summer. We will be there in late May, any thoughts about the sunset and where to be/stay in May compared to summer?

In May the sun still sets south of west, so if you stay in Fira or Firostefani the chances are good that it will set behind Thirassia, the small island across the caldera, not out in the open sea where you can watch it drop below the horizon. Stay in either Imerovigli or Oia. Imerovigli actually has the best overall sunset/caldera views but you can find somewhere to watch the sunset in Oia away from all the other people wanting to do the same thing if you are willing to do a little hiking, either down the road towards Amoudi Bay or up to the trailhead for the hike between Oia and Fira. You can also hike partfway down the steps to Amoudi Bay and be by yourselves. Usually no one bothers to do that. How far you will have to walk down the steps will be determined by how many other people are standing along the steps. Also, down around the first (or second, can't recall which) bend in the steps you can climb over the short sidewall and walk out and sit on the open ground. It will be obvious where to do this.

If you wan't something more "civilized" you can sit at the Kastro Restaurant at the top of the steps or on the Pelekanos Restaurant rooftop terrace in the heart of Oia.
