Ferry from Santorini to Athens on 1st September

Hi everybody

We will stay 3 days in Santorini and plan to go back to Athens on the 01/09. I would like to know if we need to book the ferries tickets before or we can buy its on the day of depart. We plan to take the morning ferry to Athens. There are some ferries on web but I'm quite confusing. I would hope your advices about a good booking website if we should book the tickets in prior.

Thanks for your help

You have the choice of 15:30 Bluestar ferry and 17:00 Highspeed 6. Also at 17:30 the Seajet 2 however this latter is very small, thus bad in rough sea.

It's hi-season on a weekend so you should book pretty quick, some options appear to be already fully booked on the Bluestar.

I think you need to book in advance for travelling to Athens on that date. I think it will be one of the peak weekends for travelling back to the mainland. You have a choice between the Blue Star or the Highspeed. There is also the Seajet 2 but I wouldn't go on that if I could avoid it. Blue Star is a traditional ferry that you can wander round and sit on deck. Highspeed is a catamaran where you have to sit inside in your allocated seat but it is faster. You should book your tickets direct with whatever ferry company you are using. Other agenicies will charge you extra. You will need to collect the tickets from an agency on Santorini (or elsewhere in Greece).
