Also, the pictures of santorini you usually see white buildings , is the whole island like this or a certain resort?

Hi Scarlets. The majority of the buildings on the island are white, most of the churches are the classic white with blue dome. September is usually very good for sunshine and cooler temperatures in the evening. We stay in Kamari, which has everything from traditional to touristy type restaurants. It's a small island so no matter where you decide to stay its easy to visit anywhere you want to. Fira can get very busy so too can Oia but in September both should be nice. It's a lovely place to visit the people are very friendly .

For me, September is THE best time to visit (this year I'm going to be there from the 25th).

Daytimes are still lovely and warm, without the oppressive heat of July and August, and while it can get a bit chilly in the evening, especially if it's a bit windy too, you should be able to enjoy a meal or drink outdoors most of the time. Just bring a light sweater or wrap, just in case.

Both Kamari and Perissa are very popular villages, on either side of the mountain that divides the SE side of the island.

On the other side of the island, you have the views across the volcano and caldera that Santorini is world famous for, and where most of the brochure photographs are taken. It can be pricey on this side of the island - top-end hotels, 5* restaurants etc.

When you say "commercial", what do you mean? If you're expecting Benidorm or Magalluf, don't worry, it's nothing like that.

The pictures you see in postacrds from santorini are mostly from Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani or Fira,

all on the caldera site of the island.
