Naxos to Delos

We will be in Naxos in September and hope to go to Delos. We have found a tour on Greeka.com from Naxos via Mykonos to Delos and return the same way for 45 euro. Would there also be a ferry we could take to do our own tour? If so, does anyone know if the cost would be about the same? Should we book in advance?

We'd appreaciate any help. Thanks!

Hey and welcome AERSr:-) Regular ferries do not stop at Delos.. the entire isle is an archaeological site;-) The excursion (tour) boats are the only ones offering visits to the isle.. they are most popular/frequent out of Mykonos.. and believe the ones out of Naxos are a 2 or 3 times a week in Season! Am sure somone will kick in with specifics for you;-) Happy planning.. and EnjOY!

The day excursions to Delos/Mykonos are the only alternative from Naxos unless you want to spend a night or two on Mykonos. No ferry from Naxos to Mykonos will get you there in time for the boats to Delos, which leave Mykonos Old Harbour at 9, 10 & 11 am, so you would have to take the ferry to Mykonos and then go to Delos the next morning.

The Alexander excursion boat is actually a very good deal, allowing you three hours on Delos, and then about an equal time on Mykonos before returning to Naxos that evening. :o)

There are no ordinary ferries going to Delos (it is not allowed to live or stay overnight on the island apart from the archeologists). The day excursion you have found is the only option.

All travel agencies sell tickets for this excursion (and others). Buy it the day before you plan going to get the latest update on sea and weather conditions etc.

The excursion runs via Paros (Naoussa) to Delos, then to Mykonos (and the same for return).

Alexander is the best option for what tour to choose (the other is Naxos Star - older and less stable for windy conditions).

Here is to give you an idea from a similar excursion:

Thank you for your info. We'll be arriving on Sun, Sept 16 and leaving on Friday, Sept 21. We plan to go on Tues but have the option of Thurs if Tues is cancelled. The Alexander that two of you have mentioned - is that the one on the greeka.com site? It's possible to reserve on line - would that be a good option? We really appreciate the time you have taken and the help you have all given.

As of last week the excursion boat Naxos Star was laid up in one of the Pireaus area shipyards, but I'm not sure what its status will be later this summer. I believe Naxos Star is the one featured in the greeka.com website, as it departs first from Naoussa on Paros, while Alexander starts at Naxos and then goes to Naoussa. You should be okay booking when you get to Naxos. Mid-September is late season, and the boat is unlikely to be full.

Have a look here http://www.naxostours.net/excursions.php All the ticket offices are selling the same day-cruises, but this is the only one I have a web-adress for. I did this excursion in mid-september a year ago, on the Naxos Star. But maybe you should contact them and ask if the excursions will continue into September also this year.

Those red Xs on the Naxos Tours website are a little worrying. ;o)

Thanks to all for your info. Looks like Naxostours is not going to Delos, but we'll keep checking. We'd like to find a tour in advance but we may just have to wait till we get there. Your info has been helpful in directing us where to look so that when we do get there we'll have an idea of which company might be best. Thanks again.

I would certainly wait until arrival to book the tour. There are lots of factors for the excursion boats to look at includingnumber of passangers booked and wheather conditions so waiting until you get there gives you maximum flexibility. You can book from any travel agency on the harbour.
