Chania town hotel and restaurant recommendation

Folks, arrive in Chania on 4th Sept and plan one night in town before catching bus to Paleo next day. Can anybody recommend a nice hotel in centre and a good restaurant that will still be serving around 2100hrs? Thanks as always.

You could try the Arkadi, in Plateia 1866, two minutes walk from the bus station.

All restaurants will be open at 9pm. Tamam, in Zambeliou, behind the harbour, is excellent, so are Karnagio and The Well of the Turk (but you would need to book for this one).

The restaurants Alabastron recomends have a reputation and are 'proper' restaurants, with menu and nice service. However, I recomend 2 resturants where the Greeks and vegetarians usualy eat. One is 'To Stachi', on Defkalionos st., before you get out of the old town eastern walls, on the left opposite a park. Its a vegetarian organic restaurant, the food is for the soul. I can't really explain this restaurant, you have to go and experience it! The other is 'Kouzina Epe', its on Daskalogianni st. in the old town, before Splantzia square as you head towards the sea, on the left hand side. Unfortunatelly this restaurant closes at 19:00. Both restaurants serve 'Mageirefta' or cooked food on the pot or oven, no grilled meats, they don't have a menu, you enter the kitchen and see what is available. Every day there are freshly cooked dishes, no microwave or pre-packed meals. Guaranteed fresh ingredients (you can taste that). If you wish, to try a bit of everything, you can ask the waiters to place a small amount of food in small dishes, so you can try a bit of everything, for the same price as one main dish. in Stachy you can taste a delicious bread homecooked with dough, and see how a real bread tastes without additives, chemicals and raising agents! These type of restaurants are typically Greek, and if you have a car, I can recomend more, but they are located on mountain villages! Just to name a few, 'Elia' restaurant as you enter Galatas village (near Agii Apostoli), 'San Parmithi' at Afrata village, north of Kolymbari village, 'Gramvousa' restaurant at Kalybiani restaurant before Balos, 'Gialites' restaurant at Livadia village near Elafonisi, 'Dounias' restaurant, east of Therisso village. To visit these restaurants you need a car.

Enjoy Crete!
