Early hours in Piraeus

Our flight from London arrives into Athens at 0230hrs. Are we best to hang around the airport for a few hours or is it better to get the bus to Piraeus (we are heading to Agistri). Is there anything open at this time where we can hang out/relax/eat? We will hopefully get the first ferry to the island so its not worth getting a hotel room or should we? Any hints/tips would be great.

Thanks

Hang around the airport as long as poss, until at least 4:00-4:30 AM. It's much more pleasant than Pireaus.

I would agree with Tinsey,Piraeus is quite an interesting place but not really somewhere to while away a few hours in the dark.Athens airport is nice, modern and compact.Even when your flight lands there should be somewhere to grab a drink and food.Check what time the ferry leaves on www.gtp.gr and catch a bus which will get you there about 45 minutes to a hour before departure so you can get the tickets. The bus stop is just outside arrivalsand is well signed. There are screens showing departure times of all public transport in the arrivals area. The bus should take about 70 minutes to Piraeus early in the morning.

Hey and welcome Jesseboyonhistravels:-) You'll certainly find some cafes open 24X7 at the airport..also offering snacks, etc..You can even head across the Street to the Sofitel which operates a cafe/bar (outdoor seating as well) and seperate restaurant both 24X7 as well;-) Figure by the time you de-plane and get luggage..if on time, chances are it'll be around 3a or later..not much time to wait really if you grab a drink/bite! Have a great trip..and EnjoY!

As Tinsey suggests, stay in the airport until around 4.30am then take the bus to the port. The ferry ticket offices open at 5.30am & there are a couple of "all night" cafes where you can have a drink & a snack to fill in your time before the ferry departs.

Agree with all the above. Arrivals at the airport is very quiet in the early hours, have a coffee and a sit down ; then catch the X96 shuttle bus to Piraeus from the pavement outside Arrivals

Well i am not sure about hanging around the airport, I quite enjoy the wait in one of the tavernas at Piraeus,in June it wil be warm and it is interesting watching the place wake up.

We also always arrive on that 2-30 flight and try to look upon it as a bit of an adventure, I understand not everyone will see it that way but it sure beats sitting in a airport for 3 or 4 hours.

..I don't think there will be anywhere near 3-4 hours to spend at airport;-) By the time OP is out of formalities..chances are the earliest it will be..will be around 3a! Barely an hour or so before boarding bus around 4-4:30a from airport to Piraeus;-) Enjoyin'!

We are also arrriving at 2:30am and will take the x96 bus to Piraeus. We are meeting up with friends at the Faros 2 hotel. Can anyone tell us how to get there? The hotel told our friends to get off at DIMOTIKO stop and it is close, but no other directions! Would we be able to get a taxi at 5am or so and where would be the best place to do that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Faros 2 is located on Κολοκοτρωνη(Kolokotroni) street, in the block between Σκουζε (Skouze) and Φιλλεληνων (Filellinon). It is a 15minutes walk from Dimotiko bus stop. You have to walk along Ηρωων Πολυτεχνειου (Iroon Politehniou) Avenue till you meet Scouze street on your right, turn on Skouze, then second road left. Either from bus stop again you turn right on first crossroad you meet, and depending on where you turn, 1rst or 2nd road you'll meet is Kolokotroni. Just turn left and walk till you find the hotel.
