Centrotel Hotel - Walking distance to grocery and Tavernas

Hi World Travelers and locals,

My partner and I will be staying at the Centrotel Hotel in Athens, Greece and the address is located on Peoniou 11, Athens 10440, Greece.

We are both looking for Tavernas, grocery stores and markets within walking distance where we can eat good Greek good and get breakfast in the morning like fruit, pastries, coffee and yogurt.

Thank you!

M and A

Well,to start with the area ....it is not one of my favourite ones,just be aware of this when you walk around,there is a large Carefour close to Larissis station and lots of smallet shops,bakeries and convenience stores,I would take the metro from Larissis station and get off at Syntagma to have breakfast and stay in the hotel's area the less possible time.

I dont think going to areas like Kipseli will offer anything to a tourist who wants to be close to the sites,If breakfast is not available at your hotel go straight to Syntagma sq,there is an Everest food chain,grab a sandwich and coffe,even a Mcdonalds next to it,breakfast is served in many coffee shops around,lots of things to choose from and also be at the beggining of your sightseeing route.

Further down Andrianou street in Monastiraki lots of tavernas and restaurants,souvlaki ,coffee shops and Acropolis in walking distance as well as other historical sites.

Now if you need to buy few things to have in your room go straight to Carefour at larissis station,a large supermarket with everything inside.

Kipseli is another suburb of Athens a bit safer(not much though)than your hotel's location.

Mentioning safety does not suggest that something is happening there every day but is wise to be carefull while walking around..especially at night.

>Kipseli is another suburb of Athens <

Kipseli is not a suburb :) it belongs to the Athens Municipality and for many years,before it started to decline,it was the heart of Athens and the best middle class neighborhood.

@M & A

You shouldnt be scared. The area is not a good one but you wont have any issues if you are alert and take some precautions. You should however reconsider your original plan. Apart from visiting a local supermarket you shouldnt rely much on that area for shopping, restaurants and breakfast. You ll find a lot better options in the tourist areas of plaka, monastiraki, syntagma, kolonaki etc.

As you mentined kitsos:it was"there is nothing for a tourist to see there,now if it is a subirb or not has little to do with the topic's request.
