Changing Planes at Athens

Just buying plane tickets online and have been offered flights with a change at Athens which looks worryingly short to me.

Arriving from Heraklion 12:45, departure to London (LHR) 13:25, both flights Aegean Air.

Is this practical?

Hey and welcome DavidGri:-) Is this on a through ticket.. meaning all on 1 ticket?! If so, you'd be protected in case of a miss and put on 'next avaialbe' something you'd realistically need to check since sometimes 'next available' can be the following day.. if not, would stay clear, lol!! Would not consider it if you're booking them seperately.. no way;-) Happy planning.. and EnjOY!

Hi there

Yes, unless it's a "through" ticket, with the safeguards that are inbuilt, it's nowhere near enough time. Even if your flight from Iraklion is on time, 1245 is landing time after which you have to taxi to the stand, disembark, and reclaim bags. A bare minimum of 90 minutes is the usual safety net and two hours preferably.

We had the same 40 minute window with Aegean from Santorini via Athens to LHR.

No problem catching the connection, even had time to do some shopping on the way through.

If Aegean give you those as a through flight and guaranteed connection, which it looks like they do, then they will book your luggage right through from Crete to London, and at Athens you will stay in Transit, so time will be fine. If you miss the connection, they are bound as a scheduled airline to get you another onward flight to London. We have experienced all variations..managed 40 mins no problem, also missed our flight but been put on the next one, arrived from our island flight and found an escort at the gate waiting to take us to London flight so anything is possible. What I would say is that if you are a worrier and will be thinking about it, then go for a longer transfer time. If you are fairly relaxed with travel, go for it- you'll be fine!!

I purchased a ticket from Toronto to Athens and then from Athens to Mytilini. I gave it about 1 1/2 hours between, but my flight was delayed and we arrived 1 hour late. Due to the fact that they do not accept passengers in the last 1/2 hour before departure we lost our tickets and had to purchase new ones for the afternoon flight to Mytilini. Olympic has a policy that you pay a reduced fare if you miss your flight.

I would say, be careful unless you purchased it as mentioned above as a through flight.
