Kaisariani Monastery

We were suggested to follow an excursion whilst in Athens at the kaisariani monastery. Has anyone been there? Shall we follow this excursion or do something else instead?

I live very close to this beautiful site and yes you should definitely go there.

It is located very close to the center of Athens (2 km) inside a beautiful forest (allas one of the last green parts of the city..).

It is actually a very well kept "touristic secret" the guy who suggested that you should visit there really knows Athens.

If you have done the basics and have 4 to 5 free hours, definitely follow it.

Kaisariani Monastery is a Byzantine monastery located in Ymittos Mt. Medium to heavy forest, full of cypresses. So it is absolutely worth to do it, if you want to do something different that 'll give you good distant views of Athens, in the middle of a valuable protected forest area. You can also have a coffee or lunch break in the local cafe.

If you visit, remember these things please:

- This area embodies what is the original Athens mountain forest landscape. Area of extra special nature interest.

- You can enter the general area ( ticket free of course ) only daytime, from 07.00 to 18.00 due to strict fire regulations.

- Trip is really short, about 20 to 30 mins from Athens centre. It can be done by car or by taxi.
