Hoping to travel to Athens...

Hi everyone... I was hoping to get some advice from the experts on these forums about visiting Athens. I am a college student from the U.S. and was thinking about traveling over Spring Break to Athens to visit all of thte wonderful places I have only heard about. I was wondering if this was a good idea as I'd be going alone and if there were any recommendations about where to stay and if not knowing Greek would make it difficult to travel in Greece. Thanks!!

Hi

We went to Athens in March last year and what an experience it was no worries about you not speaking greek the people are so friendly and majority speak english.

Our hotel was in the Fillappou area not that far from where the Acropolis is and we found it quiet and we just use to get the metro which is not far and head into the Plaka area there is so much to see the following day we went Pireaus harbour and went on the hydrofoil to Aegina so you can go to some of the islands that are near Athens.

I will never forget my visit to Athens.

Hi Brad,

Of course that is a good idea and you should live your dreams, not just dream them. You only live once.

With English you can get around in Athens just perfectly, don't worry about that.

Where to stay? Well, you have two possibilities depending on your budget. You can sta in a hotel (see: http://www.athensinfoguide.com/hotels.htm) or you can choose for a hostel (see: http://www.athensinfoguide.com/hotelshostels.htm)

There are quite a lot of very intersting things to see in Athens (http://www.athensinfoguide.com/wts.htm) and the better you prepare your visit, the more you will enjoy it.

If you need any additional information, just let us know.

Also, as a 22 year old traveling alone, is Athens pretty safe (as long as I take precautions like any other city)? Thanks!
