The absolute nearest would be Darkwood - but not at all times of year. You're looking at about $US10 to get down there - it's only 10 minutes away.

If you want good snorkelling though, you're better off taking a boat out to Cades Reef (the nearest reef going south). or take one of the many excursions that include snorkelling as part of their day or half day tours.

Hey Downey F, George is right, Darkwood is the closest, it's a beautiful beach but not much to see. An excursion like Adventure Antigua can take you on a few different trips. One,the eco tour, goes up to the north sound, Hells Gate, Bird Island, and you snorkel 3 different times and places. The second one is the Adventure Antigua Extreme tour on a VERY fast boat! You go all the way around the island, you snorkel at Pillars of Hercules, Green Island, Stingray City and then swim/hang/snorkel at a beach you can only get to by boat. We have been to Antigua more than 30 times and always take at least one of the AA trips. We never get bored and we have done these trips too many times to count. These are all day trips but not booze party boats which is great with us. You do get rum punch after all the snorkeling is done. You can have non-alocholic beverages all day, you have a great lunch and dessert. It's all included in the price and you get the boats right over at Jolly Harbour. We have stayed at Jolly Beach Resort too many times to count. I know Antigua Adventures has a website and a blog written by Eli Fuller, the owner. If you have any questions, I would be happy to help! clanced@yahoo.com

It's one of the best places on the island for older teens - plenty of watersports and things for them to do, and right next door to Jolly Harbour for more options.
