Porto To Madrid

Hello Guys,

We are family of 4,with kids 6 and 11 yrs.

From Porto we are going to Madrid.

So is it advisable to take plane to Madrid or go back to Coimbra around noon and wander around the city and take the night train 11.30pm to Madrid. In both cases we have to do shuffling of luggage once, be it airport or train. Cost wise Air is cheaper for 50 euros.

Any suggestions...

Thanks

These cruises are regular, they always fill up. By train: the first hour or so is not so interesting but thereafter the railway track runs right along the river. I find the views getting better and better after Pinhão.

You could take the train to Pinhão and from there a small cruise to for instance Tua and back. I have not heard of any cruises from Pocinho.

If you take the train from Porto it runs all the way to Pocinho. Someone will come and check your train ticket and confirm that you are in the right carriage. (not all carriages go all the way to Pocinho).

Have a look at the various Youtube videos about the train to Pocinho and about the cruises and see what attracts most?

Hi FTHW

Thanks for your reply.

The interest is to see the landscape of the country. So divided between cruise or a train to regua/pinhao.

Also, is it better to take cruise from Regua or Pinhao, if we have few hours, since as you said there are no cruises from Pochino? Both Regua and Pinhao look beautfiul. Which place would have some great scenery and views or may be we could walk and go to a near by village and get some breathtaking scenary.

By the way we are planning to do it in a day. The plan is to catch early train/cruise and back late to Porto same day.

I would take the early train out to Pocinho but not stay there (there's not much to see).

Take the first train back to Peso da Régua and have a look around there. You can even take a small boat trip on the Douro river. From Peso da Régua you can take a train back to Porto at the end of the day. In this way you have it all and you'll get to see a lot!
