Day tour of Porto

WE are arriving on August 14 on the Holland America Ryndam for a day in Porto.

We would appreciate any guidance anyone can offer on how this day can be best spent.

How early do you arrive, how late do you stay, and how much do you like to walk up hills?

thanks. our day will be from about 10am until 4 pm. Is the city sightseeing Portugal-Douro Acima something we should consider? Walking up hills not something we would prefer.

Having just returned from Porto and knowing that you prefer not walking up hills, I'd recommend that you do a private tour of the city and surrounding area with a driver. It cost us 100E for 4 hours with stops at the major sights. Visit the Graham's Lodge for a port tour and tasting, then have lunch with a fabulous view of Porto at the Yeatman Hotel.

You could also take the light rail train to the first stop over the bridge. Then take the aerial down to the port wine lodge area. Not a lot of walking is required, and you can visit whatever port lodges you desire. Take the aerial back up. Either walk across the bridge, or again take light rail back to the other side of the river. You could get off there and take the elevator down to riverside.

I've forgotten where to get off that line (locals will chime in,) to take a peek inside Sao Bento railroad station. You must see the tiles inside this station.
