Getting around in Porto

Hi there

I'll be visiting Porto next month with my wife who is recovering from a leg injury, so she has trouble walking for long distances. As I've heard Porto is quite hilly in places I was considering renting a scooter to get around. Can anyone tell me if Porto streets are reasonably safe to ride around as a visitor?

Personally, I wouldn't even think of it.

Porto has an excellent network of metro trains, trams, buses and funiculars (elevators) to get you around inexpensively. A one day ticket for the three central zones, covering most of the places any visitor would wish to go to, is just 5 Euros.

Traffic (cars) is pretty hectic in the old town, the streets are hilly and mostly cobbelstones. I think riding a scooter there would be a challenge.
