Beach day trips from Lisbon

I am taking 17 and 20 yo daughters to Portugal in Aug,

Staying in Lisbon 8 nights.

Planning day trips. Need advice about good beaches/sites to see with them.

Hoping to do mornings at beach a few days then dinner in Lisbon at night, then start over the next day with another day trip for 6 full days.

Not big museum girls but love architecture, beauty of old cities.

My proposal:

day trip to Sintra (is this a full day?)

day trip to beaches Cascais/Estoril

day trip to Obidos by train (is this an all day event?)

day trip to Porto (earliest train to and latest train back) will just skim surface of Porto

day trip to another beach (suggestions????)

day seeing Lisbon

Please advise! Thanks so much!

day trip to Sintra (is this a full day?) - at least one full day, unless you don't plan to enter in any of the sights7Palaces.

day trip to Obidos by train (is this an all day event?) - don't go by train, too slow and not frequent. Go by bus, it's an half day www.obidos.pt/CustomPages/ShowPage.aspx…

Here is the timetable for Óbidos rodotejo.pt/media/rapidas/horario_verde.pdf

day trip to Porto (earliest train to and latest train back) will just skim surface of Porto - Why? Take a bus and go to Ericeira, is THE surf spot around Lisboa, your girls will love it, and you have great restaurants for seafood and fresh fish. Bus company Mafrense

day trip to another beach - go to Sesimbra (by bus), your girls could do a diving experience there, also great restaurants for seafood and fresh fish.

"day trip to Obidos by train (is this an all day event?)"

It would be by train! There are frequent buses that do the trip in half the time. These leave from Campo Grande bus terminal in Lisbon, which is next to the metro station of the same name. Timetable is at rodotejo.pt/media/rapidas/horario_verde.pdf

My thoughts on the rest

day trip to Sintra (is this a full day?) - Easily. It's 40 minutes by train from Lisbon Rossio station. There is so much to see you could easily spend two days there. Several of the popular places to visit are out of town on the tops of hills, but there are frequent little buses that run around. See www.scotturb.com for bus info.

day trip to beaches Cascais/Estoril - they are very close to one another. Personally I see no reason to visit both.

day trip to Porto (earliest train to and latest train back) will just skim surface of Porto. That's 3 and half hours each way, including time to get to and from city centres to stations? Earliest train on weekdays is at 6am, last one back 847pm. Book train tickets more than 5 days in advance (reservation is compulsory on this route) and there is a 40% discount. www.cp.pt for times and tickets.

day trip to another beach (suggestions????) Guincho is a popular beach but it is also quite close to Cascais.

day seeing Lisbon - skip one of the beaches perhaps and spend longer in Lisbon?
