Getting from Lisbon Airport to Porto

What is the best, fastest way to get from Lisbon airport (arriving late in the afternoon) to Porto?

How long does it take?

Which is the fastest train?

We need to get to downtown, to Hotel Pestana.

Thanks!

The airport is about six minutes by metro (subway) from Oriente railway station from where trains leave for Porto about once each hour. The fastest trains take 2hrs 44 minutes, the others about 30 minutes longer. Which one you may take depends on your arrival time.

for train times and fares go to www.cp.pt and for the site in English click on the little flag icon at the top of the page next to where it says 'Acesso Rápido'.

Average cost is about 30 Euros in tourist class but this does vary a little according to which train is taken.

Seat reservation is required, but given the vagaries of air travel I wouldn't do so in advance as tickets booked on line are not refundable or exchangeable in any circumstances if you miss the train. Trains are busy but it would be an extraordinary circumstance if the next train was completely full.

On arrival in Porto, take a suburban train from the main Campanhã station to the city centre São Bento station. Your ticket is valid. From there it's a half mile walk or taxi ride. Unfortunately there is no metro station nearby.
